Codecasa S.p.A.

Motor shipyard · Viareggio, Italy · since 1825

Profile

Overview

Codecasa builds steel and aluminium motor yachts in Viareggio, the Tuscan port that has been a centre of Italian boatbuilding for centuries. The company traces its shipbuilding roots to 1825, when a local shipwright began working in the town, and it presents itself as a yard with two hundred years of history. Today it works from three Viareggio yards, Ugo Codecasa, Codecasa Due and Codecasa Tre, and from a former production site in the Navicelli canal area of Pisa. Its published range runs from about 30 to 70 m. The yard moved into luxury motor yachts in the 1970s, after a long period building sailing vessels, fishing boats and working craft. Current work shows a yard that builds on proven platforms instead of starting each boat from zero. The 56.8 m Legacy 4 was delivered in April 2026 as the first Codecasa 57. A seventh 43 m hull is being built on speculation for delivery in 2028, and a 58 m project, hull C128, is being finished at Viareggio for a 2027 delivery. Naval architecture is handled in-house, and the yard works with outside studios for interiors and, on some projects, for hull design. The yard describes its approach as gradual evolution of proven designs rather than revolution.

Origins

History & Ownership

The yard dates its origins to 1825, when Giovanni Battista Codecasa began working as a shipwright in Viareggio. In 1902 the family founded a yard for sailing boats, and by 1946 it had built more than 50 sailing ships. Luxury motor yachts were added from 1973. The Ugo Codecasa yard opened in the new harbour in 1977, Codecasa Due followed in 1982 and Codecasa Tre in 1987. A Pisa site was added in 2011, and the company marked 200 years in 2025.

Build philosophy

Engineering & Fleet DNA

Codecasa builds displacement motor yachts, meaning hulls that move through the water instead of skimming over it, which suits long, comfortable passages. Its yachts combine a steel hull with an aluminium superstructure, a common choice that keeps weight high up on the boat down. The 56.8 m Legacy 4 is a 900 GT yacht with twin Caterpillar 3512E engines, a vertical bow and a stated range of 5,000 nautical miles. It complies with Lloyd's Register rules and the Red Ensign Group Yacht Code. The yard reports that standard components used where sensible helped Legacy 4 reach completion in about three years. Naval architecture and exterior styling come from the in-house technical department, with outside help on some hulls: the Codecasa 58 platform was developed with PLANA Studio. The yard also lists a speed range in aluminium alloy from 35 to 50 m.

Ownership profile

Who Buys Codecasa S.p.A.

Codecasa suits owners who want a mid-size motor yacht of roughly 40 to 60 m for long-range private cruising, built on a proven platform. Its recent hulls, including the 43 m series and the 57 m class, are steel-and-aluminium displacement yachts designed for extended passages. The yard presents itself as an established Italian family builder rather than a trend-led brand.
